First, the space rocked. I'd never been to Mr. Small's, a huge old church converted to a music venue. The music echoed so much and was just so big that I felt it vibrating through my body. The show was sold out, and the bands loved that. "This is every rock band's dream--selling out Pittsburgh on a Monday." Awesome! The space was packed, and the audience was so full of energy and happy to play Dan Deacon's games (clearing out the middle of the floor to let one person dance, and then everyone had to imitate the guy dancing).
All three bands played songs together, and then each took turns playing their own. It was a really, really awesome show, and I'm so glad they came to Pittsburgh--we were one of only seven stops on the tour.
Here's Dan Deacon under his wacky skull lighting setup.
